Why this blog?

In 2007, shortly after our third child was born and while attending Hazelip School of Theology at Lipscomb University, I took on the role of education minister at a church in Franklin, TN.  Gary Holloway had shed light on the path of spiritually formative ministry, and I longed to put that knowledge into practice.  Then the education committee that was overseeing my work informed me that they had the adult ministry covered, but my services would be helpful with the children.

Suddenly, I realized the gravity of the situation.  There were 3 children in my home, 50 under my care in the congregation and 120 within reach at the church run preschool.  Why not devote myself to their spiritual development?  That is what I did, and the spiritual formation of children continues to be my passion.

Now it is the summer of 2014.  I have six wonderful children in my home and I have just accepted the call to minister to approximately 150 children and their families at the Collegeside Church of Christ in Cookeville, TN.  For me, writing this blog is a spiritual discipline that will keep my mind fresh and challenge me to keep searching for the best practices for forming the hearts of our children.

This blog gives me an avenue to partner with you as we both try to raise Godly children in a fallen world.  If this blog is helpful, share it with fellow parents.  If it could be more helpful, let me know how I could improve it.

May God bless us as we seek to bring up our children…

In Him,

Wes
